Case Study Summaries The following case study summaries describe problems encountered by our clients and the solutions we developed to solve them. - Professional information request (PIR) processing system
A major pharmaceutical company was faced with a steadily increasing number of information requests from health care professionals about its products. The group of scientists responsible for answering these questions (part of the medical affairs department) was in danger of being overwhelmed by volume, leading to increased response times and responses that were less personalized to each request. We designed and developed WEBSTIR, a web-based professional information request processing system. Built upon Documentum, Oracle, Microsoft Internet Information Server, Visual Basic, and Active Server Pages, the system enables the medical affairs staff to answer more inquiries in less time with fewer people, and included ERES and electronic delivery features. A major pharmaceutical company produces regulated promotional materials that require review and approval. The documents are regulated by the FDA, and the authors and reviewers are frequently in several different locations. We developed eSTaR, a comprehensive promotional regulatory affairs document storage and approval system that enables users to review and approve regulated promotional materials using a secured, electronic approval process. The system is built upon Documentum, Microsoft Visual Basic .NET, and Adobe Acrobat and is distributed to end users via Citrix. A major pharmaceutical company provides grants to educational institutions and medical professionals to help promote education in the therapeutic areas which the company's products serve. The grant approval process was managed manually. The client hired a vendor to develop a system to manage the process, but after a failed offshore development effort they contacted Jacquette Consulting to develop a system. We developed OMEGA, a web-based grant review, approval, and management system that enables users to review and approve grant applications, integrates with the client's accounting system to issue payments, and helps users track the lifecycle of a grant. The system provides both an internal user interface for reviewers and an external web site for applicants. The system is built upon Oracle, SQL Server, Microsoft Visual Basic .NET, and Microsoft ASP .NET. Read the detailed case study (in PDF format.) - Pharmaceutical electronic archive development
One of the operating companies of a major pharmaceutical firm wished to transition their research and development archive from paper to an electronic repository. They asked Jacquette Consulting to provide both technical and project management expertise. We worked with the client to understand their goals, and then jointly developed a plan to implement a document repository to house the scanned images of the documents. Parallel to this development project, we also developed a plan to outsource the imaging of the documents and selected a vendor to perform these services.

- Documentum hosting service development
EMC's Documentum product suite is the gold standard for document management in the highly regulated pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device industries, but the cost of purchasing, implementing, and maintaining even a small Documentum installation is significant. A small global regulatory consulting firm, saw an opportunity to provide hosted Documentum as a service, augmenting their strong regulatory consulting expertise and helping their small and medium-sized clients have access to the premier tool in the regulatory world. The regulatory consulting firm selected Jacquette Consulting to help complete and extend their Documentum infrastructure, provide upgrade services, and lead efforts to make the tools productive for the regulatory consulting firm and its clients. One of Jacquette Consulting's clients trains and evaluates Health Care Professionals (HCPs) to determine their eligibility to participate in CNS clinical trials. Training and evaluating a large number of professionals generates significant data, so our client asked us to develop a rater database, a system that enables tracking of that data. We built a system based on Microsoft SQL Server and a Visual Basic .NET front end. Read the detailed case study (in PDF format.) - IT service level management
The commercial leasing division of a worldwide bank needed to define the services provided by the information technology group to the business units. They are experiencing rapid growth, and the number of offices continues to expand across the globe. Despite its global business presence, the company provides the bulk of its infrastructure services from only two locations - the United States and Europe - with each supporting multiple offices and unique infrastructure requirements. The information technology group responsible for the Americas region asked Jacquette Consulting to provide technical analysis and communications expertise to anchor their own effort. Our analysts were so successful with the initial effort that we are now involved in helping describe and globalize the client's IT service offerings worldwide.
